Tasks
- To help to plan, facilitate and attend a weekly virtual networking event to help create a Buddy Scheme campus community and provide a safe space for students to meet up. This would entail being on camera and being the face and host of online events. Potential scope for in person activities in adherence with government and university health and safety guidelines. - To feed-in your ideas to the programme of Buddy Scheme virtual events programme. - To be an advocate for the Buddy Scheme by sharing your own experiences of the scheme and communicate the benefits. - To help to run the Buddy Scheme Facebook groups for new students and volunteers (Buddy Scheme Members). - To encourage conversation within the groups and build up a friendly relationship with students by asking questions and being engaging. - To provide a real insight into your university experiences, popular topics include study, exams, assignments, accommodation, clubs and societies, sports, preparing for university, managing your finances, campus life, etc. - To communicate the benefits of being a Buddy Scheme member to current students via our social media. - To complete any training, and attend any meetings necessary to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the role.

What kind of support/supervision will you receive?
- Fully supported by the Participation and Volunteering Team, - Attend a online training session, - Regular meetings (online) with supervisor, - If you have access needs to contact the Buddy Scheme ([email protected])

- Experience of the Students’ Union Buddy Scheme, - Ability to demonstrate intercultural competence and empathy, - Experience of organising events, trips and activities, - Experience of using social media channels and online platforms such as Zoom.

Tasks
.Make regular contact with your Buddies prior to Freshers’ Week and to be available for them during the Autumn Term and Spring Term (if you choose to continue for 2 terms). Signpost to any services they may require such as relevant student support services, social activities and local services. Offer friendly support and share personal experiences and tips about the University of Sussex and the city of Brighton to help the new student settle in and make the most of their time at Sussex. Help Buddies find activities they may be interested in, such as Union sports and societies. To attend virtual events with their buddies to help them integrate into the Sussex community and meet others. Respect confidentiality, unless you feel that your buddy is at risk to themselves or others.

- Facilitate students’ language learning through activities for specific languages at the Virtual Language Cafe. - To assist the Language Café Leaders with any other tasks necessary to ensure the smooth running of the session as required. - Assisting with organisation of the Virtual Language Cafe.
Location
The Virtual Language Cafe's will take place weekly over Zoom.
What kind of support/supervision will you receive?
- Fully supported by the Participation and Volunteering Team, - Attend a online training session, - Regular meetings (online) with supervisor, - If you have access needs to contact the Language Cafe ([email protected])

Help to plan, facilitate and attend the weekly virtual Network events to help create a Postgraduate campus community and provide a safe space for students to meet up. This would entail being on camera and being the face and host of online events. Potential scope for in person activities in adherence with government and university health and safety guidelines. Promote The Network within your school of study and across campus, to help raise awareness. Help to create an online community of postgraduate students through The Networks social media (Facebook page and Instagram). To feed in suggestions and ideas for improvements to The Network. To complete any training, and attend any meetings necessary to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the role.

Online with potential scope for in person volunteering activities in adherence with government and university health and safety guidelines
