Last week, your officers met with Graeme Pedlingham, Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor for Education, who is a member of the University management team. Jayne Aldridge, Director of Student Experience, wasn't able to attend. The following issues were discussed:
- Block Grant for SU - It is important that negotiations start as soon as possible to give a cost idea for next year. Graeme will double-check with Jayne about the process. It was discussed that the SU will need a lot of funding for the transitional period for students to get back to ‘normal’ (for activities & wellbeing events). This is a priority.
- Hardship Fund - The Government has provided universities with £50 million to supplement UK University student hardship funding. Sussex bid for this fund and has been given a lump sum (exact figures TBD). This funding needs to be used by the end of March. Graeme said that if the lump sum is not spent before this point it will need to be returned to the government. Read more about the University's hardship fund.
